This Bee Eater design is one of five bird designs which was created by artist and printmaker Marliese Richmond, based on the collections in Perth Museum. It has been inspired both by the splendid Red Bearded Bee Eater - and with vintage posters in mind. In the same way that Roy Lichtenstein magnified the dots found in comic book, artist and printmaker Marliese Richmond has enlarged the dots found in the heritage posters held in the collections of Perth Museum and Art Gallery. The image is a woodcut which has been hand printed in two colours, leading to beautiful textures and overlaps.
