Printing up Red Bearded Bee Eaters

Bee Eater Woodcut

I wanted to share how I printed up the two colour woodcuts of my Red Bearded Bee Eaters on display at Perth Museum which is available as a wallpaper, fabric and other products.  Watch the video below to gain an insight into how I print these up on my heritage printing press.  The video below shows me printing up a woodcut which is around half the size of that which I printed up for Perth Museum.  It is much easier and quicker to print up small scale plates - but the principles are exactly the same.

And here is another video about the finished article - you can see how by hand printing woodcuts, you get some beautiful effects in the way that the inks interact.  You cannot predict what these are going to be, which is what makes hand printing so compelling to the printmakers - and of course, it creates one off pieces of art work.

If you like the design, you can buy it from my shop here on Spoonflower in a slightly smaller scale print, as wallpaper, fabric or made up as a cushion, bedding, curtains or duvet cover.  Personally, I think it would look fantastic as a cushion, particularly in a larger oblong size.
