Catwalk at the V&A in Dundee

Fashion and modelling is so alluring - not only the beauty and glamour, but the sense of witnessing something unique.  This is all captured at the Catwalk exhibition at the V&A museum in Dundee.  The V&A is always a treat to visit and this is a fantastic exhibition.  

The layout represents different eras of modelling, with the most stunning dresses and photographs throughout.  The first space describes the beginnings of the catwalk at the turn of the 20th Century.  There are some beautiful pieces of haute couture on display - my photographs just cannot do justice to these glorious items of clothing.  Some details sucked me in - such as this beautiful drawing of a model from the early 20th Century - and these exquisite buttons on a post WW2 Christian Dior jacket.  As someone who has never been able to produce a neat button hole, I was in awe of these, and stood gazing at them for a full 5 minutes!

The exhibition opens out into an area covering the 60s through to the 90s.  It was fantastic being able to see Mary Quant's PVC raincoat - she was such an iconic figure.  There were some beautiful photographs of the supermodels of the 90s, who I remember being mesmerised by as a teenager - including Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington.  In the next space, Balenciaga is featured, with this extraordinary floor length blue dress.

I'm finishing this blog post with my two favourite dresses.  The one above is called 'Hypnosis', by a Dutch designer, and is like an optical illusion.  The dress below is by Scottish Designer Christopher Kane - if I were capable of still clubbing, I'd be stepping out in it this weekend!  There are still several months left to see Catwalk:  The Art of Fashion - it runs till 17th January 2027.  Enjoy it!
