As I have written before in this blog, I think it is really important to encourage creativity in children. I am always blown away by the ideas my daughter and her friends have - they are incredibly imaginative, and are definitely not hobbled by convention or other restraints. I really enjoy spending time with them when they are being so inventive. Recently, my daughter and another very creative friend were given a limited budget to go round some second hand shops and find some clothes to upcycle. Here they are with their finds, and scoffing an ice cream to celebrate!
Afterwards, we went to the haberdashery shop, where they chose some trimmings and buttons to transform their clothes. Items of haberdashery are very affordable, and are a great way of changing the look of a garment.
Then it was onto the sewing! Both girls worked hard to change the look of their clothes - here, a ribbon is being sewn along a side seam - I would have never thought of doing this! Once the girls had a batch of new clothes ready to go, they put on crazy make up to complete the look and treated us to a full on fashion show, with Dua Lipa blaring out. It was really impressive how many looks they were able to create from a limited selection of clothes!
