This is a hand made print of a linocut with the title ‘otters hunt fish during the long evenings in August’. This would make a great present for a wildlife lover, or for someone whose birthday is in August.
Perth, the city I live in, straddles the river Tay. As you walk across the bridge in summer months, you regularly see otters swimming, their lithe bodies effortlessly cutting through the currents, hunting fish.
The printed area is 19cm x 26cm and the paper is 29cm x 38cm. It is printed in black oil based ink onto beautifully smooth white Japanese Simili paper. I am fascinated by the agility of otters and the shapes their bodies can twist into, and I have replicated their sinuous form in this linocut.
All of my linocut prints turn out slightly differently – depending on where the linocut is placed on the paper, how much ink is rolled on, and how much pressure is used to transfer the ink from the linocut onto the paper. This is one of an edition of 100 prints, and each print is number, titled and signed, all in pencil.
